Common name: 'The Black Weaver Ant.'
This is a shinny black weaver ant. The workers stick leaves together with silk from their larvae combined with dead plant fragments. Each colony is only small between 100-150 workers and usually only one queen. The nests are constructed in folded or overlaping leaves and have a single entrance which is sealed every night.
Workers are between 4-5 mm long and the queens about 8 mm. It is a day active species which likes to eat sweet sugery secreations and dead insects.
